Lucas is in remission!
Oct 29, 2022

Hi everyone! I am very happy to share that Lucas is in remission! In order to determine remission for Lucas's disease his doctors took a sample of his bone marrow and there was less than 0.01% of cancer detected. This is excellent news and means that the treatment he is receiving is working. The plan is to continue his treatment over the next 26 months (give or take) to ensure that his cancer never returns. Remission is wonderful news, but Lucas still has a long road ahead. Lucas just finished the first week of his next phase of treatment. This phase is ... READ MORE

Lucas is in remission!

This phase is called consolidation and will last 12 weeks. During this time he will continue 3 medications he was already recieving and his doctors are incorporating 4 new medications. This week he recieved a new medication and he tolerated it very well.  Lucas' energy levels are rising and we are so happy to see him spending more time laughing and playing. He is getting back to his love of playing with his cars and trucks and building with blocks. Lucas also attended a Halloween party this week where he decided to dress up as a garbage man! Please continue to keep our sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers. We are wishing everyone a happy and safe Halloween! Love, Veronica

Update on Lucas
Oct 7, 2022

Hi everyone! We wanted to update everyone and let you all know that Lucas is doing well (all things considered). We received the results from his spinal tap from the beginning of last week and his spinal fluid is still clear with no signs of cancer. Thank you all for your prayers! Lucas has been taking it easy and resting a lot at home. He is tired from all the medications, but his mood is still good (mostly). :) Even though his energy is low he is willing to take occasional rides around the neighborhood in his wagon to check the mail or go to the park. At the park he prefers to take it easy while watching his dad use the monkey bars. While at home, Lucas has been watching a lot of movies and he is currently obsessed with Wreck it Ralph.  Lucas has a lot of chemotherapy treatmeants in the upcoming weeks and some new drugs will be introduced. We are confident that Lucas will continue to be the brave little boy he has been and continue to perservere through his treatments. Please continue to pray for strength for our sweet boy. We are thankful for every smile, laugh, and fake sneeze from Lucas. We are enjoying the good days as they come and leaning on one another through the tough days. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. Love, Veronica & Tyler (Lucas' mom & dad)

Procedure tomorrow
Sep 26, 2022

Hi everyone! It’s Veronica. :)
I wanted to give everyone a quick update! On Friday, Lucas went in for labs to check all his levels. All of his labs came back good and he did not need any infusions!
Lucas enjoyed an uneventful weekend at home. He was able to get some much needed rest. His doctors warned us that he may be extra hungry due the medications he is on— his current craving is bean burritos. :)
Tomorrow Lucas has a busy day and will be getting a spinal tap done. Please pray that his spinal fluid comes back with no signs of cancer. (As of now, the doctors have only seen cancer in his bone marrow.) He will also be receiving another round of chemotherapy, so pray that goes well also!
I will continue to do updates on here as often as I’m able to. Thank you for all the love, prayers, and support. We are truly blessed.

Going home!
Sep 22, 2022
Hi everyone! This is Veronica, Lucas' mom. :) First, I want to thank everyone for all of the prayers, love, and support we have received. We are surrounded by a wonderful community of family and friends and for that we are truly thankful. Today was a good day! Lucas was discharged from the hospital and received his first outpatient treatment. After spending a week in the hospital he is VERY happy to be in the comfort his home. The first thing he wanted to do when he got home was take a bubble bath. However, Lucas has a PICC line in place and it is very important that the line stay dry, so we had to wrap his arm in plastic. This annoyed him a bit, so it was a quick bath. After he was all cleaned up he enjoyed some outside time. He quickly cycled through all his favorite outdoor activities-- playing with his nerf guns, baseball, basketball, and soccer. All the playing wore him out and he spent the rest of the evening relaxing inside before getting ready for bed. We are taking things one day at a time and are so thankful for the good days.

Lucas’ STORY

Dear friends and family,

My name is Grace and I am Lucas’ aunt. First, I want to thank you for stopping by Lucas’ fundraising page and hearing his story. We want you to know that no donation is too little and every bit helps. All donations are tax-deductible for you and tax-free for Veronica and Tyler (Lucas’ parents) when they use the funds. If you are unable to make a financial donation please contribute by praying and sharing this page across social media with your friends and family. If you are local to Northern Nevada you can sign up to assist with tasks (scroll to the bottom of this page for more information). If you would like to donate directly to Veronica and Tyler you can also Zelle them. Email: LucasFightsLeukemia3@gmail.com. Please note donations made through Zelle are not tax-deductible or eligible for company donation matches.

On Wednesday 9/14, Veronica and Tyler's world flipped upside down. After taking Lucas to urgent care on Wednesday morning for a small rash (which we now know is called petechiae). At urgent care, the doctor ran a couple of tests (that came back normal) and ordered blood work. At 3:40 pm they left urgent care and were told they should have the results from the bloodwork in about 4 hours. At 9:00 pm on Wednesday Veronica received a call from the oncologist. The oncologist immediately told her that Lucas’ blood work was very abnormal and that he was certain that Lucas had Leukemia. He instructed Veronica to bring Lucas into the hospital right away. Veronica, Tyler, and Lucas arrived at the hospital that night. After spending 3 nights in the hospital on Saturday 9/17, Lucas received an official diagnosis of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). He immediately started chemotherapy treatment under the care of a top physician specializing in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. We are giving Lucas all of our love, support, and prayers as he begins this journey.

Meet Lucas – a sweet 3.5-year-old boy full of energy. He loves cars, truck trucks, donuts, and riding his scooter (he likes to go really fast). He is also really funny. Some things that will make you giggle are when he fake sneezes, the face he makes when he pretends to sniff smelly toes, and of course when he plays hide and seek (granted he’s not the best hider, but that’s okay). Recently, Lucas has been most excited about the baby in “mama’s belly.” In November of 2022, Lucas will become a big brother to a little sister. He wants to name her "Honey Sugar" or "Sheila Puppy." He may also just want a puppy. Either way, we know he is going to be the best big buddy to his little sister.

We want to thank you for taking the time to read Lucas' story. We appreciate your continued support, prayers, and positive thoughts as we begin the long battle ahead of us. To learn more about Lucas and to follow his journey please view our “journal” for updates.

Please note we are not accepting visitors at this time. This is because the first 4 weeks of Lucas’ chemotherapy treatment will be the most critical and intense.
